This page contains a list of errors and corrections to the book. If you see an error that is not listed here, please let us know.

Chapter 1

  • Page 6, Figure 1-2
    • Predicate between p:TransportationVehicle and p:Plane should read
  • Page 16, Figure 1-6
    • All predicates labeled “p:assocationWith” should read “p:associatedWith”
  • Page 25
    • Mention of “providence” in last paragraph should read as “provenance”

Chapter 2

Chapter 4

  • Page 120, Table 4-3
    • owl:FunctionalProperty  –  (A p x) and (A p y) implies that x == y

Chapter 5

  • Page 161
    • “…That is, the relationship between knowledgebase size and the time required to perform the operation can be represented by the function f(x)=log(a).” should read “…and the space required to perform…”
  • Page 181
    • Second Paragraph: “A repository is a lot like the phone book.” should read “A registry is a lot like the phone book.”
    • Last Paragraph: “We will discuss Swoogle again as part of our discussion of exploring the Semantic Web in Chapter 7;..” – Swoogle is discussed on pages 190-192 in Chapter 6, not Chapter 7.

Chapter 6

  • Pages 198, 200, 209, 211, 218, 219
    • The use of  the foaf:img property in the queries for George Washington’s picture no longer return data.  The foaf:img property should be replaced with foaf:depiction.

Chapter 13

  • Page 444
    • In the “Decimal Degrees” info box, the equation: “40 + 44/60 + 55/3600 = +44.748611″ is wrong. That sum is actually 40.748611. The correct figure appears in the explanation sentence that follows.

Chapter 14

  • Page 470
    • The sentence “The first domain contains the class d1:canine and the second domain contains the class d1:dog.” is wrong.  It should read “…and the second domain contains the class d2:dog.”.

Appendix D

  • Pages 556
    • The use of  the foaf:img property in the query for George Washington’s picture no longer return data.  The foaf:img property should be replaced with foaf:depiction.
